Job Title: National Import Manager

Job Summary:

The National Import Manager will provide leadership and oversight to the Import Customer Service function throughout Great Britain, ensuring that all import actions are monitored and executed in accordance with company rules and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of Import Customer Service, Operations, and Import Credit Control functions
  • Monitoring and taking action to ensure all operational matters are followed and all documentation and monies are actioned within the company rules
  • Ensuring GB carrier haulage space is fully utilized and making decisions as necessary in the event of haulage or rolling cargoes
  • Promoting good customer service performance on all import cargoes and encouraging 'extra mile' performance
  • Ensuring that Import Customer Service / Operations and Credit Control staff performance are of high quality, efficient, and with minimum defects
  • Offering clients a high level of communication at all times and ensuring HMM are offering them a quality service
  • Ensuring that the operating objectives and standards of the Southampton branch office performance are not only understood but owned by employees
  • Representing the company to key customers as required
  • Maintaining an effective team, and controlling and managing staff within the Southampton sub-branch (SOUSB)
  • Management of HMM GBR CSR Import Staff, oversight of Operations and Credit Control team, ensuring all teams covered
  • Monitoring and taking action to ensure that customer needs are met and HMM interests are protected, either on financial matters or operational issues
  • Ensure carrier haulage utilization is maximised at all times, jobs performed with minimal defects, and cumulative profits maximised
  • Oversee Import Customer Service Delivery and Release teams, ensure processes followed to enable release/Delivery of containers with necessary checks/safety nets in place
  • Ensure all KPI's are known and exceeded, especially related to profit maximisation
  • Key a/c relationship management, especially major customers directly or via GB WB sales management team
  • Handling of extra incurred costs and ensuring that all of these costs (e.g. DEM/DET etc) are collected in line with Company guidelines
  • Ensure all customer rate requests are promptly and professionally handled, and that all customer queries are handled in a prompt and professional manner
  • Recommending & advising course of action in resolving issues arising in the working day
  • Awareness of A/C, office, and trade-wise analytical data to understand best practice scenarios surrounding VIP accounts
  • Compiling internal/external reports as required including weekly reports, when required
  • Material composition, preparation and presentation on any long idle containers for EHQ perusal as and when required
  • Setting and execution of company policy for all Import deep-sea and /or other container trades related to UK imports
  • After Review pass all directives from GBR & EHQ Senior management in writing to all members of staff/customers with necessary guidance
  • Liaising with landlord and EHQ Admin. / facilities management as required on all matters pertaining to the office
  • Any other duties as outlined by the Head of Operations, AP & Import CSR / AR (DGM)

Requirements:

  • Degree education preferred. Minimum GCSE level must include Maths/English, emphasis on excellent numeracy, oral skills and computer Literacy
  • Intermediate or above level Excel mandatory, PowerPoint optional
  • Knowledge and experience essential related to container imports and logistics. Background in a global deep-sea carrier environment. port, logistics and man management experience
  • Organisational skills; able to plan effectively, excellent administration skills, good at juggling priorities and coordinating / organising
  • Initiative; alert to opportunities, self-starter, uses imagination to solve problems, develops ideas from scratch and sees through to successful execution
  • Adaptability; open minded, flexible to change, makes the best of new situations
  • Business awareness; interest in the company's' needs as a whole. Ability to understand market, competition, commercial impact, and plan / budget accordingly
  • Able to deliver high quality work to brief and on time
  • Communication; Strong interpersonal and inter-cultural communication skills, clear and concise speech, active listening, understanding of cultural differences
  • Leadership; an excellent leader and man manager
  • Analytical focus & numerical critical reasoning; Advanced excel and numerical / analytical skills essential. Attention to detail, uses logic to assess facts and draw appropriate conclusion, able to handle numbers easily, and interpret stats and trends
  • Decision making; the courage to make difficult decisions when required
