Job Summary

The role of Senior Peer Support Specialist is tailored for individuals who have firsthand experience in overcoming mental health challenges and utilizing these experiences professionally as Peer Support Workers.

By sharing insights from their own journey, Peer Support Workers instill hope and convey the message that recovery is achievable for others. In this setup, the Senior Peer Support Specialist will collaborate with the Trust-wide Lived Experience Leadership Team and Senior Peer Support Specialists to facilitate and enhance Peer Support Worker roles.

This will involve contributing to the growth and sustainability of Peer Support Worker positions, including defining their roles.

The role will also involve leading the peer support vision for the service and co-facilitating group sessions to provide assistance to individuals seeking support.

The incumbent will advocate for a 'coaching' approach to help service users identify goals and formulate personal recovery plans.

Main Duties of the Job
  • To provide high-quality individual supervision to Peer Support Workers in community services.
  • To actively participate in the recruitment process of Peer Support Workers, including serving on interview panels.
  • To engage proactively and collaborate with internal services like Human Resources and Occupational Health to ensure robust recruitment processes and well-being maintenance for Peer Support Workers.
  • To effectively co-deliver training, including accredited Developing Expertise in Peer Support, Peer Support Worker Team Preparation sessions to prepare peer support workers for their roles within teams; and learning and development activities within the Recovery College.
  • To work with the multidisciplinary team alongside newly appointed peer support workers to provide support to individuals accessing services.
  • To advocate for a coaching role in supporting service users in developing personal recovery plans.
  • To meet, welcome, introduce, and orient service users, their carers, and families to the service upon their arrival.
  • To establish supportive and respectful relationships with individuals accessing the service.
Person SpecificationQualifications and Training
  • Completed Peer Support Worker training (preferably accredited)
  • Evidence of further training related to personal recovery principles
  • Willingness to undergo or completion of ImROC Peer Support training
  • Evidence of ongoing professional and personal development
Experience
  • Personal lived experience of recovery from mental health challenges
  • Experience in sharing personal life experiences and recovery journey positively with service users, carers, and others
  • Work experience in various health and social care settings as a peer support worker
  • Recent experience in delivering training and presentations to diverse audiences
Skills, Knowledge, and Attributes
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding of the concept of personal recovery as it relates to others
  • Demonstrated good interpersonal skills and ability to form peer relationships with service users and carers
