Job Title: Grounds and Maintenance Assistant

Blagdon Retirement Village, a part of the Retirement Villages Group, is seeking a skilled Grounds and Maintenance Assistant to join our team. As a Grounds and Maintenance Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the overall well-being and satisfaction of our residents by maintaining and enhancing the physical environment of the community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform regular inspections of buildings, equipment, and common areas to ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Ensure proper functioning of lighting, elevators, and emergency systems, and address any issues promptly.
  • Address and resolve residents' maintenance requests in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Ensure outdoor furniture and amenities are clean and in good condition, and report any defects or faults to the Facilities Manager.
  • Communicate effectively with residents and staff regarding maintenance schedules, disruptions, and planned activities.
  • Ensure that all open areas of the grounds, including grassed areas, beds, woodlands, boundary fences, roadways, paths, and paved areas, are properly maintained to a high standard.
  • Undertake regular inspections and monthly checks of the Village with the Facilities Manager.
  • Perform painting and decorating tasks as required.
  • Responsible for treating roads and pathways with salt/grit when necessary during winter months.
  • Ensure the structure, fixtures, fittings, and equipment of the Village are properly maintained.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience in maintenance/gardening or a related field is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks and challenges.
