To facilitate these advancements, they are seeking a new Head of Production to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and uphold quality standards within their production division.
The Role – Head of Production
Located in a state-of-the-art facility, the Head of Production will play a crucial role within the organization, reporting directly to the Operations Director. This position entails overseeing a team of production operatives, along with production planners and coordinators.
The successful candidate will be a proactive and seasoned leader in production, ideally with a background in the print sector. Responsibilities will encompass all facets of the production workflow, from sourcing raw materials and scheduling print jobs to overseeing manufacturing, finishing, and inventory delivery. The role demands a commitment to ensuring that products are produced efficiently, punctually, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Strong leadership capabilities, strategic insight, and a hands-on management style are essential to optimize production operations while nurturing a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and execute a comprehensive production strategy that aligns with the organization's objectives.
- Identify and implement opportunities for process enhancements, automation, cost savings, and efficiency improvements within the manufacturing sector to boost productivity, quality, sustainability, and profitability.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the production team, cultivating a culture of excellence and accountability while establishing clear performance expectations and providing ongoing feedback.
- Collaborate with the design studio to develop product launch strategies, manage stock build programs for retail introductions, and minimize waste through effective product discontinuation.
- Enhance operational performance to drive efficiency and profitability while managing subcontractors to ensure adherence to quality standards and delivery timelines.
- Build and inspire a high-performing team, ensuring effective recruitment, training, and development practices are in place.
- Refine production methodologies, enhance processes, and minimize waste.
- Establish and enforce quality control protocols to guarantee that all products meet or exceed established quality benchmarks.
- Oversee budgets, forecasts, and financial planning for the production department.
- Promote a safe working environment by conducting regular safety audits to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Skills and Competencies Required
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity within a similarly sized printing organization.
- A proven history of successfully transforming and enhancing manufacturing operations.
- NEBOSH and safety qualifications are advantageous but not mandatory.
- Extensive expertise in production planning within a comparable manufacturing context, preferably in print.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to execute tactical plans effectively.
- A charismatic leader capable of empowering and motivating a team.
