Position Overview:
This role presents a remarkable opportunity to advance and finalize a well-structured research initiative focused on the initial phases of cancer development. The project entails the innovative amalgamation of transcriptional and mutation datasets to retrospectively analyze the historical transcriptional profiles of cells that eventually evolved into tumors. The position requires practical engagement with animal models, molecular biology techniques, and extensive computational analysis of the resultant data.
The successful candidate will be part of a vibrant and motivated partnership between two leading laboratories at the Institute of Genetics and Cancer (IGC). One lab specializes in high-throughput computational methodologies to decipher the mechanisms underlying mutagenesis and the implications of genetic alterations, while the other concentrates on the cellular and molecular dynamics of liver development, repair, and oncogenesis. Both laboratories operate within the MRC Human Genetics Unit, which is a component of the broader IGC framework.
This position is primarily full-time (35 hours per week), although we are receptive to exploring part-time or flexible working arrangements. Additionally, we are open to considering hybrid working requests that blend remote and on-campus engagement.
Essential Qualifications and Skills:
- Possession or imminent award of a PhD or equivalent qualification in cancer genomics or a closely related field (Desirable).
- Trained in animal handling with a valid Personal Licence (PIL) (Desirable).
- Experience in genome-scale analysis utilizing R programming (Desirable).
- Proven capability in experimental design.
- Familiarity with gene expression analysis for single-cell or analogous datasets.
