Key Responsibilities

The laboratory encompasses various disciplines including Bacteriology, Parasitology, Mycology, and Serology, in addition to a specialized Diagnostic Molecular testing area. As a Microbiology Support Technician, you will be integral to the laboratory's testing processes and provide essential technical assistance to our Scientific staff.

With a high volume of investigations conducted each year, our department is a vital component of diagnostic services, supporting numerous healthcare facilities in the region.

Candidate Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates should:

  • Possess a GCSE in Maths and English (grades 9-5 or equivalent); a science-based GCSE is advantageous.
  • Have prior experience in a laboratory setting, which is preferred.
  • Exhibit dexterity, proficient keyboard skills, and the ability to effectively prioritize tasks.
  • Demonstrate strong literacy and numeracy skills, along with a flexible work approach.

Job Responsibilities

Technical/Scientific Duties

Engage in routine operations across various areas of Microbiology, including:

  • Bacteriology
  • Serology and Virology
  • Mycology
  • Parasitology (Faecal)
  • Preparation of media

Handle and process samples of various biological fluids, ensuring adherence to laboratory protocols.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • GCSE in Maths and English at Grade A-C (or equivalent).
  • Experience with computer applications.

Desirable

  • Laboratory experience, particularly in Microbiology.
  • Experience in processing large volumes of samples.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable

  • Understanding of the Data Protection Act.
  • Experience in data entry.
  • Knowledge of laboratory science, especially Microbiology.
