Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Learning Support Assistant to join our team at Northumberland County Council. The successful candidate will provide support to young people with special educational needs in a Post 16 setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized support to learners with special educational needs, focusing on the development of basic skills and vocational learning.
  • Develop and implement support programs in partnership with lecturing teams, ensuring learners can integrate fully into class activities and make progress.
  • Assist and support learners with special educational and general learning needs, including running specific programs and activities to meet individual learning and social needs.
  • Implement targets on learners' Individual Education Health Care Plans (EHCP) in liaison with class lecturers.
  • Provide learning support in class or one-to-one situations, developing knowledge of learners' particular needs and seeking advice from lecturers and outside agencies as required.
  • Assist in making or modifying resources as suggested by Educational Psychologists or other outside agencies and lecturers.
  • Organize and maintain an inclusive learning environment across the whole environment, providing positive reinforcements, praise, and rewards to learners.
Requirements
  • Experience of working with children with special educational needs in a Post 16 setting.
  • GCSE, 'O' Level, or equivalent qualifications in Maths and English.
  • NVQ2 or equivalent as recognized by the National Occupational Standards for Supporting Teaching and Learning (NOS-STL).
  • Knowledge and understanding of the different social, cultural, and physical needs of pupils.
  • Interest in how young people learn and behave.
  • Ability to provide appropriate role models of behavior both in the classroom and around school.
  • Care passionately about young people, particularly those who find learning and managing their behavior difficult.
  • Training in aspects of SEN, i.e., ELSA, dyslexia.
