South Yorkshire, United Kingdom Shelter Full time

Are you knowledgeable about child development and the challenges faced by families experiencing homelessness? Do you have a proven track record of assisting parents and children with intricate needs? If so, consider the role of a
Support Worker for Children and Families at Shelter, where you will play a crucial part in alleviating the effects of inadequate housing and exclusion in the Sheffield region.

About Shelter
We believe that everyone deserves a safe home, which is the cornerstone of our mission. Unfortunately, millions are affected by the ongoing housing crisis.

Our purpose is to advocate for the right to a secure home, as it is fundamental to well-being.

We are seeking driven and passionate individuals to contribute to the significant changes we aim to achieve.

Our primary challenge is the social injustice at the heart of the escalating housing crisis.

To effectively combat this issue, we must reflect the diversity of the communities we serve and those who support our mission.

We take pride in our inclusive, equitable, and transparent approach in all personnel decisions. We are dedicated to addressing racism both within our organization and in the broader community. We invite you to join us on our journey toward becoming genuinely anti-racist.

About the Team

The Shelter Sheffield team provides housing guidance and support to individuals throughout the city, focusing on emergency homelessness, intensive assistance for families and children, individuals facing domestic violence, and those with multiple and complex needs.

We adopt a comprehensive approach to help individuals navigate interconnected issues that may hinder their ability to maintain stable housing, assisting over 5000 people annually.

About the Role

In this position, you will manage your own caseload of families, serving as their primary support worker to facilitate resettlement or prevent homelessness.

Your main objective will be to address the specific needs of children within households to stabilize their living conditions and promote family well-being.

This will involve providing focused, customized support through one-on-one interactions and group sessions.

Regular visits to clients' residences and schools across the city will be necessary, along with collaboration with other community organizations to ensure a coordinated service.

We are open to discussing flexible work arrangements, personal development opportunities, and fostering a workplace where you can express your true self and achieve success based solely on your abilities.

About You

You possess a solid understanding of housing, homelessness, and anti-social behavior legislation, as well as welfare benefits that impact families. You have the skills to network, gather information, and advocate effectively, along with strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities.

Demonstrating experience within a safeguarding framework, you can manage a caseload while prioritizing, organizing, and establishing boundaries.

Benefits

We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family-friendly policies, pension contributions, and interest-free travel loans.

Employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving options, a cycle-to-work scheme, and an employee assistance program.

At Shelter, we assist millions of individuals each year who are grappling with poor housing conditions or homelessness through our advisory, support, and legal services.

Our advocacy efforts aim to ensure that one day, no one will need to seek our assistance. We are committed to ensuring that no one faces the challenges of inadequate housing or homelessness alone.

Become a part of our mission and contribute to meaningful societal change.
Safeguarding is a collective responsibility.

Shelter is dedicated to upholding the health, well-being, and human rights of those we assist, ensuring they live free from harm, abuse, and neglect.

All staff members are expected to adhere to professional standards of conduct and perform their duties in accordance with our Safeguarding Policies.
