Barnardo's operates a residential facility that offers short-term respite for children and young individuals within the community. We maintain consistent communication with families, educational institutions, and health and social care professionals to ensure that the support provided at our facility is mirrored at home and in school, allowing the young individuals to benefit from a cohesive and stable care approach.

All staff in the role of Youth Support Specialist engage in various shift schedules, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays. The Youth Support Specialist - Night Shift position entails overseeing the well-being and safety of our young residents during nighttime hours. This may involve caring for individuals with intricate health requirements who necessitate continuous monitoring throughout the night due to their conditions. Additionally, you will assist with morning routines on school days, which may include physical support, feeding, and addressing personal care needs, such as administering medication and performing practical tasks like meal preparation, laundry, and general housekeeping duties.

Essential Qualifications

  • Proven experience working with children and young people in either a paid or voluntary capacity.
  • Familiarity with report writing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in a residential care environment.
  • Experience with children and young people who have learning disabilities or life-limiting conditions, particularly those who may exhibit challenging behaviors.
  • Level 3 qualification or higher in a relevant field such as childcare, healthcare, or social sciences.
  • Valid driving license and willingness to operate a service vehicle.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures. (To be assessed during the interview process).

Work Hours: Contracted for 23 hours per week (2 nights). Shifts will be organized as part of a rota, ensuring coverage across 6 nights and 7 days each week. Shift patterns will be communicated in advance.

Salary: £24, £29,172 (Full-Time Equivalent)

Employment Type: Permanent

The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced background check and register with the relevant professional body.
