The Embryology team at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is seeking high-quality, focused individuals to enhance the clinical services provided. The role involves a variety of administrative, supportive, and practical laboratory tasks that are essential for delivering a superior service and assisting patients in their journey towards starting a family.
The successful applicant will collaborate closely with embryologists, andrology teams, and other departments to engage in a range of activities that support the unit's operations, enabling the provision of assisted conception, diagnostic services, pre-implantation genetic testing (PGT), and fertility preservation initiatives, including the ovarian tissue cryopreservation program. Our unit operates continuously, providing care for patients undergoing funded treatments and welcoming both national and international self-referrals.
Key Responsibilities
The individual in this role will work in close coordination with senior embryology personnel to execute necessary procedures, offering both administrative and technical assistance to the embryology, andrology, and tissue cryopreservation laboratories. This collaboration is vital for the seamless and effective delivery of clinical services. Participation in research activities, including data collection and maintenance of research databases, is also expected. The candidate must effectively prioritize clinical and diagnostic responsibilities and be capable of working under the guidance of clinical embryologists.
About Us
Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust's Assisted Conception Unit provides a comprehensive range of services, including assisted conception, diagnostic testing, PGT, and fertility preservation. We operate continuously to support patients undergoing funded treatments and attract both national and international self-referrals. Annually, we facilitate over 1800 IVF/ICSI cycles, including 500 PGD cases, along with an additional 1700 frozen embryo transfer cycles.
Our unit offers a stimulating work environment for motivated scientists. We value our team and provide opportunities for further academic and practical training. Job Duties

Assist senior staff in the validation and revalidation of critical equipment and processes essential for maintaining high-quality service standards. This includes coordinating with third-party support engineers for scheduled maintenance visits under the supervision of senior staff. Conduct risk assessments as directed by senior scientific personnel and prepare reports for review by the Consultant Embryologist. Engage in data collection and clinical measurement to facilitate the generation of key performance indicators and performance monitoring. Report any concerns to a senior scientist to initiate appropriate investigations. Participate in auditing procedures and processes as a fundamental aspect of quality control, assurance, and improvement. Adhere to document control policies and undertake document and standard operating procedure reviews as directed by senior staff. Recognize the importance of maintaining and following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and understand when to initiate internal incident reports. Be aware of the criteria for external incident reporting to regulatory bodies and assist the Consultant Embryologist and Quality Manager in these processes when required.
