Bristol, Bristol, United Kingdom Stirling Dynamics Full time

Overview

Stirling Dynamics is seeking a Quality Assurance Lead to become a vital part of the Cockpit Controls division.

Stirling Dynamics specializes in the design, development, and manufacturing of advanced aircraft simulator inceptors, which serve as the interface between pilots and machines. Our sophisticated active controls are highly adaptable and suitable for both single and dual cockpit configurations. Our product lineup includes side sticks, throttles, collectives, cyclics, tillers, and pedals, all engineered to be compact, fully functional, and cost-effective throughout their lifecycle.

With a legacy of pioneering active control technology since the early 1990s, we are proud to have achieved numerous industry milestones, including the provision of controls for the first fully-active fly-by-wire helicopter flight. Currently, we supply active sticks and throttles for cutting-edge pilot training simulators and continue to innovate in cockpit control technology. The Cockpit Control sector requires a Quality Assurance Lead within the Production Department, focusing on products that include electrical, electronic, and mechanical subassemblies. The responsibilities of this role encompass:

  • Conducting goods-in testing and troubleshooting of PCBs
  • Overseeing Development, First Article, and Acceptance testing of company products at both equipment and system levels
  • Accurately interpreting and documenting test results
  • Supporting the management and delivery of products through testing phases (throughput and capacity planning)
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and operational instructions
  • Participating as a stakeholder in defining requirements for PCBs, products, and associated testing equipment/facilities
  • Managing the inventory of test equipment assets, including tracking, maintenance, and procurement of new tools
  • Developing test procedures for both build-to-print and innovative products
  • Reviewing conceptual designs from a testing perspective and providing constructive feedback
  • Conducting failure analysis investigations and generating non-conformance reports
  • Overseeing the line management of test personnel and ensuring health and safety compliance for the test team

Responsibilities

The Quality Assurance Lead will be accountable for the product testing area within the organization, ensuring that the test function meets its performance objectives in terms of time, cost, and quality.

  • Manage personal workload and that of the team to meet project timelines, budget constraints, and quality standards
  • Provide line management for test team members
  • Ensure the timely availability of necessary skills, equipment, tools, and processes to support testing requirements while maintaining a safe working environment
  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of testing documentation (e.g., test procedures, reports, first article inspections)
  • Ensure that test equipment, including rigs, is appropriately maintained and calibrated as required
  • Oversee the management of test equipment and assets

Skills

  • Adaptable and proactive approach
  • Professional demeanor
  • Self-driven to ensure successful task completion
  • Pride in delivering high-quality work
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficient in IT applications
  • Organized and detail-oriented, particularly with test documentation
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Methodical and practical problem-solving skills in engineering
  • Capacity to meet tight deadlines

Experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in a similar role, particularly in high-precision, high-value electro-mechanical sectors such as Aerospace or Precision Engineering
  • Strong capability to read and interpret technical drawings, both mechanical and electrical
  • Experienced in testing electromechanical devices with embedded software
  • Proficient in fault finding and root cause analysis at both component and system levels

Benefits

We offer a competitive compensation package and a variety of benefits to acknowledge the contributions of our employees. We believe in balancing hard work with enjoyment, and we regularly organize events throughout the year to foster social interaction among our team members.
