Job Title: Research Associate

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Associate to join our interdisciplinary team at Newcastle University. The successful candidate will have a strong background in animal behaviour and a passion for pursuing cutting-edge biological questions.

About the Role

The Research Associate will be responsible for designing and implementing experiments investigating emotion-like behaviours and cognitive biases in bees. This will involve working closely with lab members and collaborators, evaluating behavioural data using video recordings and statistical models, and presenting research findings at internal and external meetings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement experiments investigating emotion-like behaviours and cognitive biases in bees
  • Liaise with lab members and collaborators through research meetings and discussions
  • Evaluate behavioural data using video recordings and statistical models
  • Present research findings at internal and external meetings
  • Contribute to outreach efforts through interactions with collaborators on the project
  • Supervise junior lab members and students as necessary
Requirements
  • PhD in a scientific area involving animal behaviour
  • Excellent all-round technical skills
  • Experience researching animal behaviour
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
Desirable
  • Knowledge of and experience researching insect behaviour, especially bee behaviour
  • Knowledge and experience of scientific practices promoting open science and reproducibility
  • Statistical modelling, especially using R
  • Video data analysis
