About the Role

Colas Road UK is seeking a skilled and experienced Highway Maintenance Operative to join our team. As a Highway Maintenance Operative, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our highway maintenance services.

Main Responsibilities

As a Highway Maintenance Operative, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out temporary defect repairs to ensure the safety of road users
  • Applying safe methods of working to all activities
  • Understanding and following procedures relating to Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations
  • Understanding and following procedures relating to Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome regulations (HAVS)
  • Driving within the confines of The Road Traffic Act
  • Operating machinery as required and directed by the Supervisor
  • Installing/Removing Traffic Management as required
  • Working four days on and four days off, both daytime and nights, including bank holiday working
  • Ensuring all operations carried out within our area of responsibility are undertaken with full regard for the safety of visitors, other members of staff, and yourself
  • Ensuring all activities are undertaken with due regard for the environment, to prevent pollution, comply with legal and corporate requirements, and minimize environmental impact

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience in a similar highway maintenance environment
  • C1E driving experience
  • Flexibility and hard work
  • Enthusiasm and ability to work within a small team, working under minimal supervision
  • A valid UK Driving Licence (Essential)
  • HGV Class 2 Licence is required unless you come from a strong Traffic Management work background
  • Good physical health, as the role can sometimes be physically demanding
  • DCPC, Traffic Management TTMBC is desirable
