Senior Technician - Marine/Site

Brockenhurst College is seeking a highly skilled Senior Technician to join our team at our Marchwood Site. As a Senior Technician, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the site's infrastructure, supporting lecturing staff, and ensuring the safe and functional state of our workshop areas.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support a team of technicians, providing guidance and mentoring when necessary
  • Oversee maintenance and servicing of the site's infrastructure, liaising with the estates team and external contractors
  • Assist lecturing staff in delivering courses, advising students on techniques and demonstrating safe use of tools and equipment
  • Prepare, set up, clear away, and store equipment and materials for lessons and demonstrations
  • Maintain workshop areas in a safe and functional state
  • Issue tools and equipment in a safe condition to students and staff
  • Assist students in areas of Marine Engineering, Marine Electrical, Boatbuilding, and Composites
  • Assist staff and students in the use of apparatus and equipment
  • Occasionally demonstrate machines to members of staff and students, requiring the application of acquired skills
  • Construct, maintain, fault find, repair, and service marine equipment as necessary, arranging repair in liaison with the Head of Curriculum
  • Assist in the development of new equipment and workshop activities
Requirements:
  • Appropriate qualification in Marine Engineering - Level 3 or equivalent
  • Able to manage learners and learning effectively
  • Working knowledge of the sector, either on board a ship or in a shipyard/boatyard
  • Able to develop effective learning resources to support delivery
  • Knowledge and understanding of current developments in a relevant curriculum area, including health and safety requirements
  • Effective communication skills
  • An effective team player
  • Evidence of working towards and achieving personal targets
  • Good administrative and organisational skills
  • Able to meet tight deadlines and manage pressure and a range of demands
  • Supportive and positive approach to all teaching areas
  • Energetic and enthusiastic
  • Ability to use Information Learning Technology and other IT applications
