Position Overview

We are a welcoming and supportive healthcare facility seeking a dedicated and skilled Clinical Specimen Technician to become part of our team on a temporary basis, providing both short-term and long-term coverage. Our Nursing and Healthcare Assistant team is known for its collaborative spirit and innovative approach to patient care.

The ideal candidate will be available to work a minimum of 16 hours spread over 4 mornings each week, although we also encourage applications from those seeking additional hours.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be expected to:

- Contribute to the delivery of phlebotomy services

- Oversee the management of laboratory specimens for the facility

- Conduct urine sample analysis

The Vine Medical Centre operates from a modern medical facility.

Our established clinical team includes a diverse group of healthcare professionals, ensuring comprehensive care for our patient population. This team consists of General Practitioners, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses, and various allied health professionals, all working together to provide high-quality healthcare services.

Job Duties

The Clinical Specimen Technician will provide essential support to the clinical team, working closely with the Nursing staff.

Primary responsibilities will include:

- Assisting in the provision of phlebotomy services

- Managing laboratory specimens for the facility

- Conducting urinalysis

- Cleaning and sterilizing medical instruments and equipment

- Maintaining equipment, including tracking when external checks are due and ensuring proper calibration

The Clinical Specimen Technician will also be responsible for:

- Documenting patient interactions in the clinical system

- Keeping accurate records to ensure continuity and quality of patient care

- Participating in practice development initiatives, identifying necessary service changes in response to local clinical needs

- Maintaining appointment records and performing other administrative tasks

- Keeping skills current and engaging in training and development to maintain professional competency

- Participating in all activities required for regulatory compliance

Candidate Profile

Required Qualifications

  • A solid educational background, including Mathematics and English at Grade C or above (or equivalent)
  • A qualification in Health and Social Care, such as a Care Certificate or NVQ Level 2 or 3
  • A minimum of two years of post-qualification experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficient understanding of spoken and written English
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Initiative and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with the current General Practice environment
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance issues in Primary Care
  • Knowledge of Health Promotion strategies

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one year of experience working in a General Practice setting
  • Experience collaborating within a multidisciplinary team
  • Familiarity with the EMIS Web Clinical System
  • Knowledge of Ardens templates
  • Ability to apply learning in practice and share knowledge with others
