The Marine Operations Control Specialist will report directly to the Operations Manager and will play a crucial role in overseeing all marine-related activities associated with the Floating Storage Unit (FSU). This position is responsible for the effective monitoring, control, and execution of marine and cargo operations, ensuring adherence to established protocols and safety standards. A proactive approach to safety is essential.
This role encompasses daily marine operations to guarantee safe and efficient functioning while complying with industry regulations and safety guidelines.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage, monitor, receive, store, and discharge crude oil cargo and slops, including the operation of inert gas systems, while maintaining the stability of the FSU and overseeing safety and control systems in accordance with relevant standards.
- Ensure the integrity and quality of the cargo.
- Operate the ballast system, including valves and pumps, for routine and emergency ballasting and de-ballasting.
- Be well-versed in the unit's stability manual, focusing on stability and recovery methods from damage scenarios.
- Act as the primary contact for marine operations during night shifts, assisting vendors as necessary.
- Operate various marine systems throughout the FSU, including cargo systems, bilge and ballast systems, and sewage systems.
- Complete and document marine planned maintenance activities, updating the Maintenance Management System (SAP).
- Ensure the safe and cost-effective operation and maintenance of the facility's marine systems while minimizing environmental impact, in compliance with legislation and standards.
- Participate in all aspects of cargo oil offtake operations, including transfer, metering, mooring/unmooring coordination, and documentation.
- Accurately complete and maintain Marine Department records and reports, including marine logs, vessel movements, weather reports, and stability records.
- Monitor pigging operations between the platform and FSU.
- Operate the oily water separator on the vessel.
- Engage in logistical tasks onboard, including cargo tanker and supply vessel operations and handling of hazardous materials.
- Oversee vessel stability, including ballasting and cargo loading management.
- Execute assurance activities related to the Written Scheme of Examination and Class certification.
- Maintain comprehensive records within the Maintenance Management System (SAP).
- Ensure compliance with reporting and record-keeping standards.
- Promote and embody Wood's safety culture, behaviors, and values.
- Encourage a high level of health, safety, and environmental awareness.
- Adhere to all company management standards and support safety and environmental initiatives.
- Conduct risk assessments for all activities, particularly focusing on the impact of changes.
- Ensure operational procedures are correctly implemented and monitored.
- Perform emergency response duties as required.
- Carry out first-line maintenance on various marine systems.
- Monitor bilge and void spaces, performing de-watering as necessary.
- Supervise the mooring system, taking appropriate actions as directed.
- Monitor aeronautical communications.
- Ensure the weather monitoring station is operational, including helicopter weather reports.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.
- Participate in audits, technical assessments, and incident investigations as needed.
Qualifications:
- Relevant maritime qualifications, HNC, NVQ, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in control room operations (preferably marine).
- Practical knowledge of systems, plant, and equipment relevant to the marine sector.
- Experience as a technician in an offshore environment.
- Strong understanding of marine engine systems.
- Familiarity with CMMS systems (SAP preferred).
- Ability to apply theoretical knowledge in practical scenarios.
- Strong team collaboration skills.
