We are currently looking for an experienced Construction Site Manager in our Highways Division, overseeing various highway projects that include tasks such as expansion joint renewals, bearing replacements, phased panel replacements, refurbishment of drainage channels, and corrosion protection for structural elements.

Ideally, candidates will be located in the surrounding areas.

This position will primarily be based from the office during the day, with most work scheduled at night across the network.

Given the nature of the role, occasional site visits during nighttime hours will be expected.


Main Responsibilities:

  • Supervision of site personnel and subcontractors.
  • Develop method statements, risk assessments, and project management plans.
  • Understand tender provisions and track contract expenses against established budgets.
  • Prepare and oversee work schedules.
  • Evaluate and engage subcontractors.
  • Coordinate design management.
  • Manage contracts to ensure timely and profitable project completion.
  • Communicate and involve local stakeholders as necessary.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with clients.
  • Understand and manage contract modifications.
Are you the ideal candidate?

As an experienced Construction Site Manager, you will possess a relevant industry qualification (HND/HNC/BEng) or equivalent, along with a current SMSTS certification and an appropriate CSCS card.

A First Aid at Work qualification is advantageous.

You will also have a background in managing civil engineering projects with a main contractor, along with prior experience in Highways, Earthworks, and Structures.

Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK and hold a full UK driving licence.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Ability to maintain and monitor project timelines and budgets
  • Capacity to prioritize personal workload
  • Competence in managing multiple complex and straightforward sites
  • Maintain thorough documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with current legislation, including the creation and implementation of RAMs and other safety/project documentation.
  • Ability to forecast costs and schedules
You will have experience in the UK civil engineering sector, particularly with the NEC form of contract. A relevant industry qualification (SMSTS or equivalent) is required. You should have substantial main contractor experience in civil engineering, ideally within Environment Agency projects, including earthworks.
