Plant Service Controller Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Plant Service Controller to join our team at this exciting time of growth. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our plant fleet, ensuring maximum uptime and minimizing downtime.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Respond to site reports of plant breakdowns, ensuring prompt resolution and minimal downtime.
  • Consult with site foremen/supervisors to schedule maintenance, balancing site needs with manufacturer guidelines.
  • Order replacement parts, service maintenance kits, and oils as required.
  • Communicate with the hire desk to ensure awareness of machines requiring repair.
  • Consult with machine manufacturers to ensure warranty repairs are conducted.
  • Manage calls reporting tyre punctures or burst hydraulic hoses, ensuring prompt repair.
  • Review plant mechanics worksheets to identify site damage and ensure sites are charged accordingly.
  • Ensure LOLER-compliant equipment undergoes 12-monthly safety inspections.
  • Verify equipment compliance with PUWER legislation, ensuring regular checks and maintenance.
  • Maintain safety standards and adhere to our Health, Safety & Environment Management System requirements.
  • Provide risk assessments and method statements to engineers, ensuring adherence to procedures.
  • Ensure PPE is worn by engineers during all work tasks, as per risk assessments.
  • Raise H&S concerns to site management and your line manager.
  • Ensure the fleet operates safely and efficiently, in accordance with legislation and regulations.
  • Verify compliance with our health and safety policies, procedures, risk assessments, and method statements among our personnel and suppliers.
  • Establish a planned preventative maintenance schedule, ensuring periodic tests, inspections, and maintenance are completed in accordance with LOLER and PUWER regulations.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrable experience in managing and maintaining a fleet of construction machinery.
  • Ability to add value, reduce costs, and drive business improvements.
  • Good knowledge and technical understanding of plant machinery manufacturers.
  • Experience with service reporting systems to log breakdowns/job sheets.
  • Ideal background in plant hire, with a broad knowledge of plant equipment.
