Job Summary:
Norfolk State University's Department of Facilities Management is seeking a skilled Trades Technician III (Roofer) to join our team. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing minor repairs to various types of roofs on campus, ensuring all repairs meet city and state codes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform roof preventative maintenance, including inspecting roofs, making photographic documentation, cleaning roof drains, removing debris, and maintaining watertight roofs.
- Keep a daily accurate inventory of all tools and equipment.
- Perform daily review and timely responses to email and telephone messages.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Promote and practice safe work habits to achieve an accident-free work environment in accordance with state OSHA rules.
- Be available to respond to after-normal working hours emergency calls to perform vital carpentry repairs.
Requirements:
- Considerable knowledge of and experience in repairing roofs, roof systems, and structures.
- Demonstrated ability to climb ladders and perform routine inspections on normal or high elevation roofs.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize roofing material, including felt, shingles, strips, flashing, vents, and adhesives and application materials.
- Demonstrated ability to interface effectively, both verbally and in writing, and provide quality customer service.
- Ability to respond to emergencies both before and after business hours.
- Previous experience inspecting roofs, windows, and walls for serviceability.
- High School diploma or GED or equivalent combination of training and education that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- General computer knowledge required.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated skill in reading schematics, blueprints, and various structure diagrams in efforts to ascertain the status and efforts needed in repairing/maintaining various roof systems.
