Curtiss-Wright Industrial Division is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Christchurch, Dorset.

In this role, you will play a pivotal part in the development of innovative control systems for medical mobility devices, including electric scooters and wheelchairs. You'll be responsible for all mechanical design aspects of new product introductions, from initial concept through to production and beyond.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Lead the mechanical design process for new products, ensuring on-time delivery and adherence to budget constraints.
  • Create detailed engineering drawings and specifications in accordance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with customers, internal stakeholders, and external partners to provide technical expertise and guidance.
  • Utilize advanced engineering tools and methodologies (e.g., tolerance analysis, stress analysis, DFMEA) to validate design solutions.
  • Define product testing protocols based on relevant regulatory standards, encompassing mechanical and environmental considerations.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation and manage issue resolution and change control processes.

Your Expertise:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is preferred. Candidates with extensive experience in electro-mechanical design are encouraged to apply.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience working within an electro-mechanical design environment.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling software packages.
  • A strong understanding of engineering materials, their properties, and selection criteria.

Desirable Skills:

  • Advanced Solid Modeling skills using SolidWorks.
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for stress, modal, non-linear, or magnetic simulations.
  • Knowledge of designing enclosures for effective heat dissipation.
  • Familiarity with die casting and plastic molding processes in product design.
  • Understanding of the requirements within the medical mobility market or other safety-critical design domains.
  • A solid grasp of DFM/DFA techniques.
