Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Apprentice Commercial Quantity Surveyor to join our Projects team. As a key member of our commercial team, you will be responsible for supporting the project teams in all commercial matters and working with operational teams to ensure all commercial objectives are delivered.

Key Responsibilities
  • Commercial Function: Provide the commercial function across projects to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Team Coordination: Work within a team of talented professionals ensuring co-ordination and provision across all aspects of project delivery.
  • Pre-Contract Setup: Undertake pre-contract setup, including forecasting, measurement, sub-contract tendering and procurement (including drafting to negotiating various forms of subcontract).
  • Commercial Management: Effectively manage the commercial aspects of various projects, including valuations / applications, budget monitoring, material / plant reconciliation and contract variations / compensation events and change.
  • Final Accounts: Prepare, manage and negotiate the agreement of Final Accounts.
  • Subcontract Management: Procurement and management of subcontract packages, as well as supporting other members of the commercial team in the management of subcontract packages.
  • Project Forecasts: Responsible for producing and maintaining project forecasts to support the monthly commercial and financial reporting procedures.
  • Risk Management: Assess, review and mitigate commercial and contractual risks.
  • Team Management: Manage commercial team to ensure delivery of above items and develop their knowledge.
  • Training and Support: Provide support and training for site staff on commercial issues.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all legal requirements, including contractual and legislative.
  • Standards and Procedures: Ensure compliance with Dyer & Butler standards and procedures in respect of commercial activities.
  • Project Documentation: Assist with control of project documentation.
  • Ad Hoc Duties: Ad hoc duties as job requires.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: Degree / HND qualification in Quantity Surveying or other relevant subject.
  • Commercial Experience: Strong level of identifiable commercial experience within the construction industry.
  • Project Experience: Demonstrable experience of working on Highways and Civil Engineering projects.
  • Communication Skills: Good command and communication of oral and written English.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in the use of MS Office (ie. Excel) and other computer skills.
