Pelagia (UK) Ltd is seeking a skilled professional to take on the role of Quality & Laboratory Manager. This position is pivotal in overseeing the quality assurance processes within our operations.

The successful candidate will be tasked with managing the Feed Safety and Quality Management systems, ensuring that all operations adhere to regulatory standards and best practices. Key responsibilities include coordinating audits, inspections, and maintaining compliance with industry regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing and overseeing the implementation of Feed Safety and Quality Management systems in accordance with current regulations.
  • Managing all regulatory, customer, and third-party audits and inspections to ensure compliance.
  • Conducting supplier evaluations and approvals based on established criteria.
  • Evaluating and approving raw materials in line with safety and sustainability standards.
  • Maintaining and continuously monitoring quality system databases.
  • Ensuring finished product quality and safety meets all legal and customer specifications.
  • Creating and executing internal audit programs, addressing any corrective actions as necessary.
  • Delivering training programs on feed safety to ensure staff competency in producing compliant products.
  • Participating in the development and review of the HACCP program.
  • Identifying non-conformances and implementing corrective and preventative measures.
  • Communicating product deviations and safety issues to senior management.
  • Engaging with customers regarding product quality and technical specifications.
  • Liaising with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Overseeing laboratory operations, including human resources and work routines.
  • Ensuring laboratory health and safety procedures are compliant and risk-assessed.
  • Implementing and maintaining laboratory quality control programs.
  • Monitoring laboratory data to ensure robust sampling plans are in place.
  • Verifying the accuracy of laboratory data and ensuring results are disseminated appropriately.
  • Conducting product analysis as needed during staff absences.
  • Managing laboratory cost control effectively.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A qualification in Science or Food Science.
  • Experience in technical or quality roles within food or feed manufacturing.
  • Certification in HACCP or Food Safety Management.
  • Proven experience in implementing and managing Quality Management Systems, with knowledge of GFSI standards.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
