About the Adult SLT Team:
The integrated Acute and Community SLT Team is a friendly and supportive group of therapists, apprentices, assistants, and administrative staff dedicated to serving the local population. We are committed to continuous improvement and innovation to deliver a high-quality, responsive service. Our recent advancements include enhanced telehealth capabilities and ongoing improvements to our established videofluoroscopy service. We also provide pharyngeal electrical stimulation in inpatient settings and are dedicated to the ongoing professional development of our staff and the training of SLT students.
Main Responsibilities:
In this role, you will:
- Lead, coordinate, and deliver evidence-based Speech and Language Therapy assessments, treatments, and interventions for adult clients across the designated area.
- Manage complex acquired communication and swallowing disorders, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and care coordination with other service providers.
- Contribute to assessments regarding mental capacity and informed consent, advocating for clients and assisting them in maximizing their independence in decision-making and communication.
- Support the advancement of the Speech and Language Therapy service.
Your position will be integrated within the broader BTH Adult SLT service, collaborating with the team and other service providers to ensure person-centered care. The department is dedicated to promoting evidence-based practices and service enhancements, and you will be encouraged to engage in clinical supervision, continuing professional development, audits, and research.

Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:
- Recognized degree in Speech and Language Therapy (BSc or MSc).
- Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Membership in the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
- Completion of recognized dysphagia training.
- Commitment to continuing professional development.
- Completion of a relevant SLT Clinical Educator course.
Desirable:
- Completion of a relevant leadership course.
Experience & Knowledge:
Essential:
- Specialized knowledge in adult acquired communication and swallowing disorders, with a minimum of five years of post-graduate clinical experience.
- Understanding of the Mental Capacity Act and experience in conducting mental capacity assessments.
- Experience in collaborating with stakeholders to establish person-centered goals and treatment plans.
- Experience in delivering training and presentations to a variety of professionals and support staff.
- Knowledge of clinical supervision principles and experience in mentoring junior staff and students.
- Demonstrated initiative in service development and quality improvement projects.
Desirable:
- Experience in conducting and interpreting videofluoroscopy.
- Advanced clinical knowledge beyond the specialist field.
