Principal Environmental Health Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Environmental Health Officer to join our team at Mid & East Antrim Borough Council. This is a part-time contract post based in Ballymena, working 22.2 hours per week over 3 days.
About the RoleThis is a fantastic opportunity to work for a large local council, ideal for an experienced EHO looking for flexible part-time work. As a Principal Environmental Health Officer, you will be responsible for managing a team who oversee a distinct Environmental Health function covering all environmental health services.
Key Responsibilities- Liaise with government departments, partner agencies, and stakeholders on matters relating to the defined remit.
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including discussion with the Environmental Health Manager about the need to instigate legal proceedings, maintaining an oversight in the preparation of documentary supporting evidence, and attending court proceedings.
- Research and prepare reports, recommendations, and consultation responses on service-related issues.
- Coordinate and direct staff resources in terms of workloads and priorities, in conjunction with the EH Manager and Principal EHO colleagues.
To be eligible for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Degree in Environmental Health
- Membership of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health
- Two years' experience in a local government Environmental Health role, with effective supervision and management of a team, effective budgetary management following specified procedures and guidance, and complex regulatory enforcement.
This is a superb opportunity to work for a large local council, ideal for an experienced EHO looking for flexible part-time work. You will receive a competitive salary of £48,474 - £51,515 pro rata, 22.2 hours per week, and 36 days annual leave pro rata. You will also have access to free on-site car parking and paid business mileage.
