About the Role

Allied World is a leading provider of innovative insurance solutions, and we're seeking a talented Cargo Underwriter to join our team in the Europe Marine Division.

As a Cargo Underwriter, you will play a critical role in supporting the growth and success of our business by analyzing and underwriting cargo business, providing technical and analytical support, and collaborating with internal stakeholders to deliver exceptional results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze and prepare submissions for underwriting, including account research and preparation for client and broker meetings.
  • Underwrite new and renewal business, as well as alterations to existing contracts, in accordance with company guidelines and industry best practices.
  • Enter and maintain information in underwriting systems, generate reports as required, and prepare quotes and bind accounts in underwriting systems.
  • Liaise with underwriters, brokers, and other internal departments to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.
  • Perform underwriting referrals with manager following account analysis, including thorough reviews of underwriting submissions.
  • Attend client and broker meetings, as well as other work-related social events, to build relationships and drive business growth.
  • Assist with the development of account pricing and recommendations, and participate in peer review to ensure high-quality underwriting decisions.
  • Attend relevant internal and external meetings to stay informed and contribute to the development of underwriting strategies.
  • Maintain underwriting files in accordance with company standards and liaise with brokers on account administration matters.
Requirements
  • At least 5+ years' experience in Cargo or similar line with expertise and in-depth working knowledge of standard market policy and endorsement wordings.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective liaison with clients and brokers.
  • Strong marketing and business development capability, with commercial acumen and ability to influence and negotiate at various levels of seniority.
  • Computer literate, with proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and underwriting systems.
  • Good attention to detail and quantitative skills, with ability to manage deadlines and conflicting priorities.
