Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated researcher to enhance our understanding of sea-air iodine emissions, specifically focusing on HOI and I2. This role involves conducting innovative experiments utilizing a gas exchange tank designed for precise control of water-side turbulence, which will be measured through the gas transfer velocities of various gases with differing solubilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and validate parameterisations for HOI emissions under ambient ozone and iodide conditions.
  • Investigate the effects of water-side turbulent mixing on the emissions of I2 and HOI.
  • Assess how surfactant concentrations influence I2 and HOI emissions.
  • Support a PhD candidate in evaluating (O)VOC production utilizing the VOCUS mass spectrometer.
  • Analyze research data and lead publications on the production mechanisms and atmospheric implications of iodine gases.
  • Collaborate with senior researchers to contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge in this field.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A Bachelor's degree in chemistry, physics, or environmental/natural sciences, along with a PhD in atmospheric chemistry.
  • Proven experience in atmospheric measurements using mass spectrometry techniques.
  • Strong analytical abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to producing high-quality research outcomes.
  • Proficiency in relevant programming languages.
  • Experience in data analysis and/or modeling methodologies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Capability to prepare research findings for publication and present at academic conferences.
  • Experience in formulating research objectives and executing both independent and collaborative projects while effectively managing time and priorities.
  • Ability to design and implement complex experimental protocols.
  • A highly motivated individual with a professional work ethic, dedication to high-quality research, and a collaborative spirit.
  • Capacity to work effectively in a team setting as well as independently, demonstrating initiative.
