The Football Association is seeking skilled interpreters to facilitate effective communication for individuals within our senior squads for deaf men and women, as well as within our talent development pathways. The role encompasses support during training sessions, competitive fixtures, and significant tournaments.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive BSL communication assistance to players and staff during events, including matches, training camps, and talent identification days.
- Assist in the execution of coaching sessions, match preparations, rehabilitation discussions for injured players, and various team meetings.
- Utilize diverse communication methods such as BSL (British Sign Language), SSE (Sign Supported English), and lip speaking as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all information shared during private meetings unless permission is granted to disclose.
- Lead communication efforts in critical situations, including:
- Media interactions with both internal and external organizations.
- Medical assessments with healthcare professionals, particularly in cases requiring hospital referrals or medication prescriptions.
- Accompanying players for off-site medical treatments.
- Facilitating discussions related to sports psychology, mental health, or safeguarding.
- Participating in formal meetings such as disciplinary hearings.
- Engaging in safeguarding-related discussions.
- Supporting presentations aimed at deaf staff or players when necessary.
- Adhere to The FA's safeguarding protocols.
- Promote leadership initiatives aligned with diversity and inclusion programs tailored for elite teams, contributing to The FA's overarching Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion strategy.
- Execute additional responsibilities as directed by the Senior Technical Performance Manager to align with The FA's evolving priorities.
- Comply with all organizational policies and procedures to uphold the highest standards of health, safety, and well-being.
- Complete a DBS check as part of The FA's commitment to ensuring a secure environment for all participants in football.
- A degree or level 6 qualification in British Sign Language and interpreting.
- Five GCSEs at grade C or above or an equivalent qualification.
- Experience in a sports context.
- Proven track record of working within a sports environment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders.
- Flexible availability for work hours and travel.
- A valid and clean driving license.
- Familiarity with Disability or Para Football.
- Experience providing interpretation or communication support for Disability or Para Football teams.
- Background in elite Para Sport environments or teams.
