Senior Electrical Systems Engineer - Research and Development

We are currently seeking a Senior Electrical Systems Engineer to join our Central Engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent research and analysis on emerging technologies, including renewable energy solutions, in mission-critical engineering, and assist in their integration into design prototypes.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to communicate innovative engineering solutions to clients and internal teams, and contribute to the development and delivery of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) sessions to share knowledge across the organization.
  • Engage in design activities, taking responsibility for developing aspects of novel engineering designs for electrical and mechanical systems, such as selecting cooling and power equipment, and sizing components for efficient energy distribution.
  • Drive the innovation of designs aimed at minimizing the operational, construction, and environmental impacts of energy systems, striving for net-zero energy solutions for complex building applications.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, contractors, and other professionals to ensure effective design implementation and installation coordination.
  • Prepare modifications to specifications using standard software tools.
  • Demonstrate an interest in reliability modeling for mission-critical applications.
  • Exhibit a keen interest in whole life cycle analysis (WLCA).
  • Support project delivery in alignment with the RED Project Delivery Process, focusing on project management, financial oversight, quality assurance, and technical review.

Qualifications

  • BEng, BSc, MSc, MEng, or PhD in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Progressing towards MCIBSE/MIEE or equivalent professional accreditation.
  • Working towards Chartered Engineer status.
  • Strong independent research capabilities.
  • Innovative thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles.
  • Effective workload prioritization and time management skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines consistently.
  • Strong presentation and technical report writing skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Familiarity with IT-based calculation and modeling software.
  • Basic knowledge of CAD software functionality.
  • Understanding of key health and safety regulations and standards.
  • Awareness of BS EN standards, UK regulations, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Good understanding of the global climate crisis and its implications.
  • Commitment to ethical practices in line with the Ethics Charter and Guidelines.
