Classroom Support Professional

Job Purpose:

To act as a liaison between the home, residential, and educational settings, providing support to students and staff within the classroom environment.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Attend daily staff meetings to stay informed about student progress and educational initiatives.
  • Support students in achieving their learning goals by:
    • Explaining instructions and expectations to students
    • Promoting positive behavior and social skills
    • Providing additional support for students with special needs
  • Help students follow established routines, structures, and boundaries within the school setting
  • Participate in break and lunchtime activities to foster a positive school culture
  • Advise and support students through the educational continuum, including reintegration programs as needed
  • Provide close proximity support for students experiencing difficulties
  • Advocate for students when necessary
  • Report to relevant review meetings as required
  • Liaise with parents, caregivers, residential care workers, and teachers to share information about student behavior, attitude, and progress
  • Contribute to relevant reports on a daily basis
  • Ensure a safe environment for all students and staff by being vigilant, adhering to health and safety guidelines, and conducting regular checks on students and the school environment
  • Perform other reasonable duties as directed by the Education Management Team or class teacher, within the scope of your contractual responsibilities

Requirements:

  • Hold a relevant HNC qualification and SVQ level 3 certification
  • Ability to interact effectively with students who may have experienced trauma and have social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise, approach, and converse with colleagues, build strong relationships with parents and caregivers, and communicate effectively with stakeholders
  • Patience and a sense of humor

Safe Crisis Management Training:

Successful candidates will require a level of physical fitness to participate in Safe Crisis Management training. Please note that this training will consist of two days of theory and two days of physical training, which must be completed within four weeks of an agreed start date. If a candidate fails any aspect of the training, an additional two weeks will be provided to pass.

Probationary Period:

Appointments will be subject to a twelve-month probationary period.
