Job Title: Trainee Field Engineer

Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding role that involves working with plant machinery and developing your skills in a niche industry? Precision People is excited to partner with a market leader in structural light testing to recruit a Trainee Field Engineer to join their expanding test team.

The Role:

As a Trainee Field Engineer, you will be responsible for carrying out structural testing and analysis of lighting columns throughout the UK. This work is carried out for local councils, highways, and the rail network.

  1. Undertake the testing of lampposts using machinery and test equipment, with training provided.
  2. Expensed overnight stays (Monday to Thursday) with an early return on Friday on a weekly basis.
  3. Work in small teams (typically 2) to ensure efficient and effective testing.
  4. Clean, check, and load test equipment and vehicles.
  5. Early starts and drive to the test location on a Monday morning.
  6. Set up and liaise with contractors and clients on-site.
  7. Work in a safe manner based on the location, with H&S training provided.
  8. Operate machinery (digger/cherry picker type arms).
  9. Report and record keeping, with training provided.
  10. Ensure the security of machinery, vehicles, and test equipment.
  11. Occasional nights/weekend work may be required.
Minimum Skills/Experience Required:
  1. Must hold a full, clean UK driving licence (class B+E desirable).
  2. Have previous experience of operating machinery such as a cherry picker, digger, JCB, scissor lift, or forklift.
  3. Basic hands-on experience of mechanical repairs such as vehicle mechanics or machine maintenance would be beneficial.
  4. Must be happy to stay away from home Monday-Thursday night on a weekly basis.
  5. Be good at planning, reliable, and well-organised.
  6. Happy to work outside in all weather conditions.
  7. Live within 30 minutes of the Derby area.
  8. Be PC literate - able to use a computer to create simple reports.
  9. Be willing to start early when the role requires.
  10. Have a strong work ethic and commitment.
The Package/Benefits:
  1. Starting salary £26,000-£28,000 per annum.
  2. Daily expenses provided along with hotels for overnight stays.
  3. Monday-Friday day shifts.
  4. £50 night shift bonus per night.
  5. Internal bonus progression within the first year.
  6. Company pension scheme.
  7. 23 days holidays + bank holidays.
  8. Internal courses.
