The British Dietetic Association serves as a leading professional body and trade union for nutrition professionals across the UK. We are currently seeking a dedicated individual to fill the role of National Policy and Campaigns Officer for Scotland. This position is pivotal in the Trade Union and Public Affairs Directorate, focusing on the research and development of policy initiatives that align with the strategic objectives of the BDA.
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in orchestrating priority campaigns, requiring exceptional skills in campaign management and project oversight. Experience in policy formulation within a trade union or membership organization, coupled with a background in a political setting, is essential.
Familiarity with the UK health landscape, particularly concerning allied health professions, is advantageous, as is knowledge of the operational framework of the devolved government in Scotland.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing policies in collaboration with relevant committees and BDA staff, focusing on key documents and position statements.
- Coordinating campaigns by working with designated groups and monitoring relevant trends in the political landscape.
- Representing the BDA in interactions with internal and external stakeholders, including specialist groups and policy networks.
- Contributing to the evolution of the policy function within the Trade Union and Public Affairs sectors.
Candidate Profile
Knowledge:
- Degree-level education.
- Expertise in campaign and project management.
- Experience in policy development.
- Understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion principles.
- Knowledge of public policy-making processes.
Experience:
- Background in a membership organization.
- Experience in a political environment.
- Desirable experience as a Dietetic or Allied Health Professional.
