The Switchboard Operator will serve as the primary point of contact for the public and internal staff at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust. This role requires exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as part of a team.
Main Responsibilities- Manage and log report faults, maintaining on-call roster information and changes.
- Answer and transfer incoming calls in a timely and professional manner, assisting callers with their inquiries using the computerized switchboard.
- Provide empathy, support, and assistance to callers with language barriers or those experiencing distress or bereavement.
- Operate paging systems, utilizing concise messages and medical terminology when communicating with clinical staff.
- Attend training sessions to enhance skills, including customer service and computer skills at higher NVQ levels.
- Assist with general inquiries, providing information on opening hours, clinic directions, visiting times, chaplain details, and accommodation.
- Connect, log, and monitor international calls for Trust staff.
- Log Estate out-of-hours calls and escalate to the Estates on-call Manager.
- Deal with GP inquiries and forward calls to relevant Consultant teams.
- Establish contact and log the District Nursing team out of hours, passing on patient information.
