Key Responsibilities

The position entails:

  • Collaborating with colleagues to deliver a high-quality imaging service that meets the needs of patients and referrers.
  • Championing excellence in planar and fluoroscopy imaging within the Radiographic team.
  • Serving as the lead clinical radiographer, providing guidance to staff and expert advice on specialized equipment.
  • Managing resources effectively to ensure the delivery of imaging services.
  • Conducting appraisals, education, and training for staff to ensure competency and professional growth.
  • Overseeing recruitment efforts to maintain service continuity.

Working Environment

We are a large, dynamic, and multicultural team of radiographers with diverse expertise, encompassing the following areas:

  • Main X-ray: This area offers general, fluoroscopy, and mobile radiography for adult in-patients and out-patients, featuring 5 DR X-ray rooms, 2 advanced digital fluoroscopy rooms, and a fleet of DR mobiles.
  • Emergency Services: This section provides adult and pediatric trauma radiography for the Emergency Department and Major Trauma Centre, including emergency and general theatre services with 3 DR x-ray rooms and a fleet of modern image intensifiers.
  • Interventional Radiology: Our interventional unit performs a wide array of complex vascular, non-vascular, and oncology procedures in 2 Siemens interventional labs, in addition to a Hybrid Lab.
  • Royal South Hants X-ray: This satellite unit, located near the city center, provides imaging for adult outpatient clinics and GP referrals, equipped with 4 DR x-ray rooms.
  • Advanced Practice: We currently have radiographers specializing in MSK, Chest, and Abdomen planar imaging, as well as those performing and reporting Barium and Video Fluoroscopy Swallows.

This role is accountable for the Central Radiology service. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the radiology management team and staff across various service management teams within the Trust, taking on a proactive leadership role, supervising, inspiring, and educating radiographers and students while ensuring effective day-to-day operational management.

Qualifications and Training Required

Essential:

  • Degree in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent qualification.
  • Postgraduate certificate in a clinical specialty and/or management.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Evidence of advanced knowledge in planar radiography, fluoroscopy, and interventional imaging.
  • Formal management/supervisory training.
  • Radiology Information System Superuser.
  • Completion of Radiation Protection Supervisor course.
  • Mandatory training as per Trust policy - up to date.

Desirable:

  • MSc in Medical Imaging in a clinical specialty and/or management.
  • Trust Intermediate management or supervisory course.

Relevant Experience

Essential:

  • Previous management/supervisory experience.
  • Significant post-qualification experience and expertise in planar and fluoroscopy imaging.
  • Evidence of personal and professional development (CPD Portfolio).
  • Proficient in ICT Management and Administration Software, including typing, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Radiation Protection regulations, including IR(ME)R 2018 and IRR 17.
  • Thorough understanding of all areas of Governance.
  • Quality assurance supervision and practice.
  • Detailed knowledge of static and mobile DR imaging systems.
  • Evidence of audit and research and development.
