About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Hospital Chaplain to join our team at Medway NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Chaplaincy Team, you will provide spiritual care and support to patients, relatives, and staff, ensuring that their needs are met in a sensitive and appropriate manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide pastoral and spiritual care to patients, relatives, and staff, including those with diverse faith backgrounds and none.
  • Contribute to the development, management, and provision of the Trust's chaplaincy service, ensuring high-quality care and support.
  • Work collaboratively with the Chaplaincy Team to prioritize case-loads, support volunteers, and respond to new referrals and unexpected events.
  • Act as the 'duty-chaplain' on a rotational basis, ensuring that the needs of patients and staff are met in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local faith communities, ensuring that the Trust's chaplaincy service is inclusive and responsive to the needs of all patients and staff.
Requirements
  • Ordained or accredited Christian minister/religious sister or brother within Churches Together in Britain and Ireland (CTBI) and acceptable for appointment by the appropriate Church body.
  • Licenced for the role of Healthcare Chaplain, with the ability to administer end-of-life rites and deliver Holy Communion.
  • Recognised theological training to degree-level or equivalent, with experience in pastoral, spiritual, and religious care and healthcare chaplaincy.
  • Excellent listening, empathy, and counselling-like skills, with the ability to prepare and conduct services of Christian worship.
  • Full driving licence and ability to reach the hospital site within 40 minutes for on-call purposes.
