The Role

We are seeking a Regional Transport Manager to collaborate with the Head of Group Transport in enhancing and overseeing the logistics and transportation operations of our organization.

Your primary goal will be to ensure exceptional customer service while maintaining compliance with safety, legal, ethical, and environmental standards.

This position will oversee approximately 30% of our fleet, which consists of 150 vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

In this role, you will assist the Head of Group Transport with the following:

  • Prioritizing the health and safety of all individuals interacting with Lawsons Whetstone in every decision-making process.
  • Championing the company’s mission and values, promoting the ethos of "Family Values - Professional Service" throughout your team and the broader organization.
  • Ensuring adherence to company and statutory regulations concerning operator licensing, health and safety, service quality, driver hours, and tachograph requirements within your region.
  • Facilitating ongoing training initiatives for both new and existing drivers to ensure they operate safely and represent Lawsons Whetstone positively.
  • Staying informed about current legislation and communicating upcoming changes to the business.
  • Assisting in the procurement management of vehicles and related equipment, ensuring that expenses remain within budget.
  • Monitoring driver performance and addressing any negative feedback to uphold Lawsons Whetstone's positive reputation.
  • Striving to enhance fleet efficiency to maximize payload while minimizing costs without compromising safety or service quality.
  • Continuously evaluating existing processes and exploring innovative solutions in collaboration with the Transport Management Team.
  • Collecting and analyzing data related to all transport activities in your area.
  • Communicating effectively with the Transport Management Team to meet business objectives.
  • Supporting the Transport Management Team with improvement and development initiatives.
  • Performing any additional duties as requested by the Board, for which training and/or guidance has been provided.

Person Profile:

Essential Requirements:

  • Proven leadership skills and experience.
  • Demonstrable track record in a similar role.
  • CPC Holder.
  • Strong geographical knowledge of the distribution area.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to build strong relationships internally and externally to enhance the company’s profile.
  • Exceptional negotiation and influencing abilities.
  • A collaborative team player with a hands-on approach.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and understand the impact of actions on others.
  • Committed to achieving high standards of excellence.
  • Commercially aware and customer-focused.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with the ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Dedication to personal and team development.
  • Proficient in PC applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle.

Highly Desirable:

  • Experience in the Timber and Building Merchants sector.
  • Multi-site transport management experience.
