BAM Nuttall is seeking a skilled and driven Quantity Surveyor to enhance our team, focusing on significant civil engineering initiatives throughout Scotland. These projects primarily involve the energy infrastructure sector, contributing to the development of new substations and HVDC converter stations, facilitating Scotland's journey towards net-zero emissions.

Your Responsibilities

As a Quantity Surveyor, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Upholding high standards of safety and environmental practices in line with company policies.
  • Ensuring effective communication with project managers, senior quantity surveyors, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Overseeing, guiding, and mentoring junior commercial staff to support their professional growth.
  • Contributing professionally in meetings with client representatives.
  • Providing commercial insights during interactions with supply chain partners, including tender inquiries and contract evaluations.
  • Managing subcontractor agreements, including payment processing and final account negotiations.
  • Monitoring site resource costs and delivering timely, accurate cost performance data.
  • Generating monthly cost and value reports, along with quarterly summaries, for senior management review.
  • Participating in discussions regarding project performance and offering commercial perspectives on project strategies.
  • Ensuring compliance with risk management protocols and advising the project team accordingly.
  • Promoting the use of company procedures and suggesting enhancements to senior management.
  • Engaging in change management, ensuring adherence to contractual timelines and requirements.
  • Facilitating the timely submission of monthly payment applications in accordance with contract conditions.
  • Providing commercial guidance to site teams and management on contractual matters.
  • Participating in all site commercial meetings and contributing valuable insights.
  • Effectively managing your time and that of the commercial team to maintain structure and efficiency.
  • Assisting in the development and delivery of commercial training for site personnel.
Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor with a main contractor, showcasing strong commercial skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with project teams, including clients, project managers, and designers.
  • Confidence and capability to work effectively within a team environment, positively influencing outcomes.
  • Willingness to support the development of colleagues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.


Desirable qualifications include:

  • Experience with Early Contractor Involvement.
  • Familiarity with target cost contracts.
  • Progress towards CICES membership or equivalent.
