Job Title: Sister/ Charge Nurse

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Sister/ Charge Nurse to join our team at NHS Blood and Transplant. As a key member of our nursing team, you will be responsible for leading and motivating a team of Healthcare Assistants and Donor Care Supervisor(s) to provide and deliver a high standard of personal care to our donors.

Main Responsibilities

  • Take clinical responsibility for ensuring the safe assessment and blood donation of our donors.
  • Be accountable for the safe running of a blood donation session.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring an excellent donor experience.
  • Maintain the competency and skills of your team and yourself.
  • Be able to adapt communication styles for difficult conversations.
  • Maintain your professional development to help us deliver improvements to our practice.

Working Hours

This role will require you to work on a shift basis, with normal hours being 9 days per fortnight. Early shifts start at 07:45 and finish 16:50, while late shifts start at 11:00 and finish 20:05. Weekend and bank holiday working will be required, with the opportunity to work some long hours, but no more than five days a week.

About You

We are looking for an individual with leadership qualities and a strong understanding of best practice to deliver high-quality care. You will have experience of supporting the professional development of others, as well as an understanding of clinical audit and research. You will also have experience of supporting improvements and change in practice, as well as an awareness of patient safety initiatives and risk management.

Qualifications and Training

  • Registered Nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration (which must be maintained) as Registered Nurse – Adult
