Foreperson - Road Planing Job Description

Tarmac is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Foreperson - Road Planing to join our team at National Road Planing in Thatcham, Berkshire. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient operation of road planing projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and supervise a team of operatives, ensuring they have the necessary training and equipment to perform their duties.
  • Operate a Caterpillar 2mtr planer or be willing to train on conversion to this planer, with previous experience of operating a road planer being essential.
  • Ensure all employees and sub-contractors have relevant proof of identification and competency, and are trained and authorised to undertake their duties.
  • Manage and comply with all safety requirements, including company standards and procedures for employees and sub-contractors.
  • Complete site-specific documentation, including site record sheets and environmental assessments.
  • Attend site-specific inductions and briefings prior to starting work.
  • Encourage the reporting of safety issues and near misses, and ensure environmental processes and best practice are followed across the contract.
Requirements:
  • Essential: Experienced using a road planer, ideally a Caterpillar 2mtr; CSCS qualification; NVQ level 2 in a related discipline; MPQC/EPIC competency card.
  • Desirable: Understanding of surfacing methods; knowledge of planing machine capabilities; ability to contribute to the operation.
