Job Description

Job Purpose:

To drive packaging innovation and lead the development of sustainable packaging solutions that meet the needs of Oscar Mayer Group UK and our business partners.

Context:

The role of packaging innovation is critical to the success of our business, and we are seeking a talented individual to lead our packaging innovation efforts. This includes working with suppliers, industry leaders, and regulatory organizations to stay ahead of the curve and provide innovative packaging solutions that meet the needs of our business and our partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of the Group Packaging Strategy and ensure its successful implementation.
  • Lead the development of a packaging innovation program that drives sustainable packaging solutions and reduces waste.
  • Work closely with the Procurement Category Manager – Packaging to manage the technical elements of our packaging strategy, including supplier agreements, new materials, and format introductions.
  • Lead and attend packaging trials, ensuring accurate generation, submission, and booking of trials.
  • Provide technical support and packaging expertise to our sites to contribute to problem-solving, customer complaint reduction, operational optimization, and profitability enhancement.
  • Liaise closely with packaging counterparts across our business partners to ensure alignment and collaboration.
  • Ensure packaging compliance with legislative requirements, including Plastic Packaging Tax, Packaging Recycling Notes, and Extended Producer Responsibilities.
  • Develop and maintain data for the Packaging Waste Regulations and submit reports to regulators as required.
  • Develop a packaging knowledge program to enhance the understanding and skills of our teams.
  • Analyze, monitor, and evaluate key packaging innovation trends and communicate potential impacts to the business.
  • Liaise with industry leaders and regulatory organizations to stay informed and provide regular updates on regulatory and industry developments.
  • Deliver value engineering project activity to drive profitability through key initiative projects.
  • Provide packaging design and print management to support the delivery of our brand strategy.
  • Report on packaging improvements and material reduction by business partner on a regular basis.

Requirements:

  • Degree or diploma in packaging technology or an in-depth knowledge of the packaging industry with experience in food packaging and systems.
  • Ability to be creative, innovative, and investigative.
  • Ability to work independently and influence others, including senior colleagues.
  • Clear communication and good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel between sites, suppliers, and other destinations as necessary.
