Technical Safety Engineer

Our client, a leading independent Oil & Gas operator, is seeking a Technical Safety Engineer to join their QSSHE team in Norwich. This is a full-time, 12-month contract based in Norwich, working Monday to Friday.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct competent in-house safety studies in support of operations and projects, including Total Risk Management, HAZID, Bowtie, and ALARP.
  • Develop Barrier Diagrams (Bowties) and conduct consequence modeling using DNV GL PHAST or FLARESIM software.
  • Perform Mini Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA) and Hazardous Area Classification.
  • Prepare Safety Case Material Changes and conduct 5-yearly Thorough Reviews.
  • Provide safety engineering support for Management of Change process (MOC) and identify necessary regulatory requirements and approved codes of practice.
Requirements:
  • Higher technical qualification within an engineering field, e.g., Process Safety, Chemical, or Mechanical.
  • 10+ years of experience in Safety Engineering in the Oil & Gas Industry.
  • Software knowledge of MS Office (Word/Excel mandatory), PHAST, PHA-Pro, BowTie XP, and FLARESIM.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports and letters, work to deadlines, and be organized and methodical.
Desirable Requirements:
  • Chartered in mechanical, chemical, or process engineering.
  • Knowledge of COMAH regulations and Computational Fluid Dynamics Modeling.

This role requires a strong understanding of safety engineering principles and practices, as well as excellent communication and organizational skills. The successful candidate will be part of the QSSHE team and will work closely with operations and projects to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and approved codes of practice.
