Job Summary

This is a key role within the Ministry of Defence's Head Office Safety, Security & Business Resilience team. The successful candidate will provide a full range of security advice and guidance, including counter-terrorism, policing, and guarding, security policy, travel advice, threat and risk assessments, and STRAP assurance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide proportionate risk-based security advice to the Principal Security Advisor, Head of Establishment, and business units on various security aspects, including physical, personnel, technical, and information security.
  • Work collaboratively with the Corporate STRAPSO for Head Office to provide advice on STRAP policy and conduct assurance checks to ensure compliance.
  • Offer security advice on new and ongoing infrastructure projects, focusing on correct construction standards and specifications meeting MOD, STRAP, and NATO specifications.
  • Act as the intelligent customer for policing and guarding services for MOD Main Building.
  • Maintain the Head Office Security Risk Register and escalate risks as necessary.
  • Develop a physical security/STRAP assurance regime for MOD Main Building, incorporating a holistic approach to security.
  • Serve as the focal point for requests regarding the use of MOD Main Building in support of national events.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with branch security officers, providing monthly security and threat briefs.
  • Respond to critical incidents when on call.
Requirements
  • Minimum 12 months' experience as a unit/local, branch, or establishment security officer within the last 3 years.
  • Completion of the Defence Establishment Security Officers course within the last 5 years.
  • Working knowledge of MOD security policy in JSP 440 (Defence Manual of Security & Resilience).
  • Keen analytical skills, with the ability to quickly identify and extract key risks, threats, or vulnerabilities from various data or reports.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to tailor and vary communication style to suit diverse military, civil service, and Ministerial audiences.
  • Ability to remain composed and focused on key issues, delivering against challenging deadlines.
  • Effective management and prioritization of workload, balancing competing demands.
Desirable Qualifications
  • CPNI/NPSA STAMP assessor training.
  • STRAPSO training or qualification.
