About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our Internal Audit Service as a Senior Internal Auditor. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of high-quality audit services to the council, and to play a key role in helping us achieve our ambition to deliver exceptional value-for-money to our residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead audits of internal directorates and external contracts, identifying areas for improvement and providing recommendations for change
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the council's systems, processes, and controls, and use this knowledge to inform audit planning and execution
  • Work closely with management teams to agree on actions to address audit findings and recommendations
  • Contribute to the development of the internal audit strategy and plan, and participate in the review and evaluation of audit results
  • Provide guidance and support to junior team members, and contribute to the development of their skills and expertise

Requirements

  • Full professional qualification in internal audit or a related field (e.g. IIA/CCAB)
  • Proven experience of working in an audit or financial management role, or a relevant background in internal control, risk, or governance
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior managers and other stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address complex issues
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible and adaptable approach to work
