Job Overview

Midlothian Council is seeking applications for the role of Transport Service Assistant to support our in-house transport for individuals with Additional Support Needs (ASN). Candidates must possess a D class driving license and be willing to engage in vocational training relevant to service delivery.

This position involves direct interaction with clients, providing an opportunity to join a friendly team dedicated to delivering vital services.

Ideal candidates will be collaborative team members and adaptable in their approach to ensure exceptional service delivery for our clients.

The role requires the driver to maintain a full PSV license due to the size of the vehicle operated. This is classified as a Group 2 Category D (vocational) license.

Candidates should be knowledgeable about current PSV regulations regarding driving hours, vehicle usage, and the proper application of the WTORS. To ensure compliance, the driver will be expected to complete a MiDAS training course every four years, in addition to the 35 hours of statutory training necessary to obtain and retain the drivers CPC card.

The successful applicant will participate in designated training as outlined in the training and development plan, particularly concerning the administration of emergency medication for clients with specific medical needs.

Staying informed about evolving procedures related to client transport is essential; this knowledge will be acquired through on-the-job training and mandatory training sessions.

A solid understanding of the local area is crucial for making informed decisions during unforeseen circumstances, such as road closures; this expertise will typically be developed through practical experience.

Key Responsibilities

This position is classified as Regulated Work with Children and Protected Adults, as per the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act. Therefore, it is essential that applicants are not barred from working with these groups.

Successful candidates will need to obtain PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children and Protected Adults. You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment, with the associated costs being the responsibility of the candidate.
