We are seeking a dedicated Inspection and Quality Model Technician. In this position, you will be tasked with inspecting metal and Additive Manufacturing components for our wind tunnel models, utilizing 3D scanning and metrological techniques to uphold our stringent quality standards.
Your responsibilities will also include assisting in the assembly and maintenance of our scale models, constructing models from the ground up when necessary, and enhancing our quality control practices for both the models and their components.
Key ResponsibilitiesQuality Control
- Deliver an efficient quality inspection service to the Model Shop and Additive Manufacturing sectors, ensuring component quality issues are promptly identified and resolved.
- Conduct scanning and dimensional inspections of components, assemblies, and complete models, working autonomously and responding to specific requests from the Head of Model Shop and Group Leaders.
- Provide scanning and metrology support during model assembly, ensuring compliance with established tolerances.
- Propose, explore, and assist in the development of innovative methods and systems to enhance quality and process efficiency.
- Document faults and non-conformances, advising on corrective actions.
- Mentor Model Shop staff in quality control and measurement tools and processes when required.
Model Shop Collaboration
- Collaborate with the Model Shop, Designers, and Aerodynamics teams to refine our scale models and improve working practices and tools for F1 car development.
- Support daily model-making operations as instructed by the Head of Model Shop, with an expected time allocation of approximately 80% for inspection and quality control, and 20% for model building and other duties.
- Develop tools and methods to ensure consistent production practices that achieve 'right first time' outcomes.
Technical Proficiency
- Analyze CAD assemblies and interpret engineering drawings with precision.

- Ensure all tasks are executed to established standards within set deadlines.
- Maintain professionalism at all times, promoting a positive image for the department and its sponsors.
- Exhibit strong communication skills and a collaborative spirit, paired with a proactive approach to tasks.

- Knowledge of pressure tap management and reporting.
- Competence in IT within a Windows environment, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Understanding of model mechanical assemblies and basic automation principles related to wind tunnel technology.
- Proactive in suggesting and implementing improvements to model construction and processes.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and follow instructions.
- Awareness of Health and Safety regulations.
- Willingness to assist across the department with minimal supervision.
- Ability to perform well under pressure to meet critical deadlines.
