Lead Clinical Psychologist in Therapeutic Community
2 months ago
Position Overview
We are excited to announce an opportunity for a qualified and seasoned Psychotherapist/Clinical Psychologist/Counselling Psychologist to become a vital part of our Therapeutic community team, focusing on specialized care for adults facing intricate emotional challenges. We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong background in analytical training and experience in facilitating therapeutic groups for individuals with severe emotional complexities. Additionally, familiarity with therapeutic community environments or trauma-informed therapy group models will be advantageous.
The Brenchley Unit stands as a recognized therapeutic community, proudly accredited by the Community of Communities under the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Our service has received notable recognition in the National Positive Practice in Mental Health Awards. We actively participate in peer evaluations of other therapeutic communities nationwide and are engaged members of The Consortium of Therapeutic Communities, frequently sharing our insights at various conferences. Our commitment to evolving our practices includes the integration of Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT) and trauma-focused Yoga, complementing our diverse array of therapies such as psychodrama, art psychotherapy, and occupational therapy.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for guiding appropriate referrals, providing supervision, and conducting case consultations. You will facilitate assessment and outpatient psychodynamic psychotherapy groups, serving as the initial treatment phase for service users prior to their integration into the therapeutic community. Your responsibilities will also include leading small group psychotherapy sessions within the community and participating in community meetings. Opportunities to co-develop training and lecturing roles will be available.
A commitment to the analytic framework of a democratic therapeutic community is essential, as is the ability to uphold our relational practice values, which emphasize co-production and inclusivity. You will need to navigate transference processes inherent in this challenging environment while maintaining a reflective stance to address the complex dynamics that may arise within both team and community settings. You will manage a caseload of clients with multifaceted needs, some of whom may present significant risks. Strong organizational skills will be necessary to prioritize your workload and uphold quality standards. You will also be equipped to step in for the clinical lead as necessary, supporting both the clinical and operational leads in the daily management of the service.
Working Environment
This position offers the chance to work within a multidisciplinary service, fostering creative opportunities. Our Trust operates a second therapeutic community, providing avenues for collaboration and shared learning experiences between teams. You will benefit from ongoing group clinical supervision and participate in a staff process group, alongside professional support and development opportunities.
Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust serves a diverse population of 1.8 million individuals and has received a Good rating from the Care Quality Commission. We take pride in our workforce, which comprises over 3,700 individuals from 66 different nationalities, reflecting the diverse communities we serve across both rural and urban landscapes.
