About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Engineer to join our team at South Gloucestershire Council. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of traffic signals across the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out periodic visual inspections of traffic signals and accurately record any faults or issues.
  • Diagnose and repair basic traffic signal faults to ensure our sites are operational and safe.
  • Contribute to site upgrade or new installation decisions, making judgements on the best action for design and specification.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation and guidance, including Safety at Streetworks and Road Works code of practice.
  • Provide feedback for design and client functions, including specification, site trials, and asset database management.
  • Manage financial implications of tasks and consider cost-effectiveness of repair or replacement.

Requirements

  • Hold a relevant qualification, such as NVQ 3 or equivalent.
  • Have working knowledge and experience of electrical installation and maintenance of electrical units in traffic signals.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and experience of safe working practices, including H&S legislation.
  • Confident, practical knowledge of traffic signal maintenance best practice, techniques, and working methods.
  • Ability to identify problems and recommend workable and cost-effective solutions.
  • Proven experience of working as part of a team and meeting service standards, targets, and deadlines.
