Position Overview

We are seeking a proficient and dedicated Lead Healthcare Assistant to join our dynamic Ophthalmology Department. This role is essential in providing exceptional patient care and support within our healthcare team.

Our department comprises a skilled and forward-thinking group of healthcare professionals, including nurses, healthcare support workers, and medical staff, committed to delivering high-quality care to a diverse patient population.

The eye clinic operates during weekdays, offering a variety of clinical services. The Lead Healthcare Assistant position presents opportunities for professional growth and development, with comprehensive training available for suitable candidates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver outstanding patient care by performing essential tasks expected of healthcare assistants, including:
    • Assessing visual acuity
    • Measuring intraocular pressure
    • Conducting visual field tests
    • Administering eye drops under the supervision of qualified staff
    • Attending to patients' overall needs during their appointments
  • Assisting in clinical settings for procedures such as intravitreal injections, as required.
  • Mentoring junior team members, including newly appointed healthcare assistants.
  • Providing leadership and support to all staff, exemplifying a positive attitude, energy, and commitment to quality care.

Job Requirements

Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in a public-facing role within health, social care, or education.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a healthcare team, preferably in ophthalmology.
  • Background in mentoring and training junior staff members.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum of Grade C in English and Maths at GCSE level (or equivalent).

Desirable

  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in healthcare.
  • Level 3 vocational qualification in a health or social care-related field, or a commitment to complete the Level 3 Diploma (QCF) relevant to the clinical area within 24 months.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Competence in all band 2 healthcare assistant tasks specific to ophthalmology and a willingness to learn.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of ophthalmic anatomy, testing procedures, diseases, and treatments.
