Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Practice Nurse to join our team. As a Practice Nurse, you will play a vital role in delivering general practice nursing care to our patients, including those with long-term conditions and implementing health prevention programs.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide basic and higher levels of nursing care to patients, including running specific clinics for respiratory, diabetes, family planning, child immunizations, and travel clinics.
  • Provide care for wounds, ear irrigation, venepuncture, ECGs, and 24-hour ECG/BP equipment.
  • Deal with patients as they present routinely or as emergencies, assessing their individual needs and treatment or referring as appropriate.
  • Immunize and vaccinate patients.
  • Accurately record all results on the computer and ensure familiarity and understanding of the requirements of the GMS contract.
  • Assist with meeting QOF targets.
  • Be familiar with emergency equipment and procedures, maintaining a high standard of safety at all times.
  • Be aware of local infection control procedures.
  • Be aware of Treatment Room protocols and take part in their regular updating.
  • Ensure that patients are treated with due regard to privacy and confidentiality.
  • Liaise with nurse colleagues and doctors where necessary.

Requirements

  • Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration.
  • Experience of INR, family planning, cervical cytology, immunization, travel clinic, and chronic disease management.
  • Specific nursing skills/qualifications relevant to the post, including respiratory, spirometry, INR, family planning, cervical cytology, wound care, immunizations, and travel clinic, chronic disease management.
  • Knowledge of EMIS Web is desirable.
  • Excellent assessment skills.
  • Understanding of chronic disease presentations.
  • Good decision-making, communication, and organization skills.
  • Understanding of vaccinations and immunizations for children and adults.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with people at all levels.
  • Good IT skills to enable accurate recording of consultations.
  • Committed to ongoing development.
  • Adaptable and flexible to work additional hours if required.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • A team player.
