Position Overview
The selected candidate will become a vital member of a collaborative and efficient team of Consultant Radiologists within the Medical Imaging Department. This department is an integral part of the Diagnostic and Clinical Support Services Division.
The successful applicant will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive radiological service that includes CT, MRI, ultrasound, and plain film reporting. While a subspecialty interest is appreciated, it is not a prerequisite. There are numerous opportunities available to cultivate a subspecialty interest, which will be actively promoted.
The department is well-supported by Specialist Trainees on rotation, radiographers, sonographers, medical imaging assistants, and administrative staff.
The post holder will be included in a 1 in on-call rota, which is partially backed by Specialist Trainees. A remote reporting service for CT operates independently from the on-call radiologist during specified hours throughout the week and on weekends.
The department utilizes Carestream PACS and has adopted home reporting to facilitate remote reporting sessions and multidisciplinary team preparation, enhancing the flexibility of agreed job plans.
Main Responsibilities
The post holder will be expected to provide a broad radiological service, including CT, MRI, ultrasound, and plain film reporting. A subspecialty interest in intervention is encouraged, with significant potential for development.
The role of advanced practitioners has evolved, with Radiographers and Sonographers independently reporting a variety of examinations. The Breast Unit has advanced practitioners who report screening mammography, and one advanced practitioner is trained in stereotactic biopsies. The Breast Department has recently integrated Mag Seed technology and collaborates with other trusts to deliver Breast Screening services.
