Position Overview
The Lead Healthcare Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting the nursing team in executing care strategies for young individuals at Schoen Clinic. This position involves taking on additional responsibilities as directed by the Lead Nurse, Senior Staff Nurses, or shift coordinators. The Lead Specialist will contribute to the effective management of shifts, oversee junior staff, and ensure that all assigned duties are completed efficiently. The nursing team will outline specific care strategies in line with best practices, and the Lead Specialist will ensure that daily activities align with these care strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties:
- Maintain awareness of best practices for the treatment of eating disorders.
- Establish and nurture therapeutic relationships with patients.
- Conduct regular physical assessments of young individuals as instructed by nursing staff and provide appropriate feedback.
- Support and supervise patients during meal times.
- Contribute to group activities designed for patients.
- Collaborate with Staff Nurses and Occupational Therapists regarding unit activities.
- Report any concerns to Staff Nurses promptly.
- Adhere to Health and Safety policies in accordance with Schoen Clinic guidelines.
- Assist Occupational Therapists and Assistant Psychologists in delivering therapies, as time allows and with nursing staff approval.
- Ensure accurate completion and filing of documentation, including observation records and patient notes.
Professional Duties:
- Serve as a role model for peers, demonstrating a professional approach in interactions with young individuals.
- Represent Schoen Clinic professionally when engaging with families and visiting professionals.
- Operate within assessed competencies as per Schoen Clinic induction.
- Maintain professional boundaries with young individuals at all times.
- Participate in organizing and managing meetings for Healthcare Support Specialists.
- Provide support to Staff Nurses.
- Offer guidance and assistance to Healthcare Support colleagues.
- Inform Senior Staff Nurses and shift coordinators of any challenges encountered during shifts.
